Depending where you live, who is in your family, and the community you have surrounded yourself by thus far, you may not know many other gender diverse identifying folx. When your child (at any age), comes out to you as a gender that does not fall into the labels of girl or boy, your perception of what that means may be limited by a few news stories or some movie that likely did not portray gender diverse folx in an accurate or positive light.

It may be time to begin moving out of your comfort zone and include more gender diverse folx into your life.

There is no better way to connect with or comprehend your child’s experience (to the extent possible) than to speak with other parents, relatives, allies and, most importantly, the folx that are living the experience.  No matter where you live, there is likely a community resource that you should look into exploring — perhaps start by reading through websites, joining social media groups, and attending (in person or virtually) support groups or gatherings.
